The Big 12 released the media's preseason All-Big 12 team in advance of Big 12 media days which are set to kick off Monday in Dallas.

About the only surprise - and a small one at that - was that West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith was named as the first team quarterback over Oklahoma's Landry Jones.  Smith was also selected as the Big 12's preseason offensive player of the year.

As much as some think Jones' should have been the first team selection, it's hard to argue with seeing Smith's name on the first team.  He was fantastic in his first season running Dana Holgorsen's offense and only figures to be more lethal in his second season under Oklahoma State's former offensive coordinator.

Smith threw for 4,385 yards last season for the Mountaineers while adding 31 touchdown passes against just seven interceptions.  He'll also have the luxury of throwing to two of the best receivers in the Big 12, Tevon Austin (also named to the first team) and Stedman Bailey.

On defense, Texas defensive end Alex Okafor was named as the preseason defensive player of the year.  He finished last season with seven sacks, one behind teammate Jackson Jeffcoat who was also named to the first team.

Overall, Oklahoma and Okahoma State had the most player's selected with five, followed by Texas (4), Kansas State (3), West Virginia (3), Iowa State (2), Baylor (2), TCU (1), and Texas Tech (1).  Kansas was the only school in the league without a player named to the first team.

Here's a look at the at the selections announced on Monday.
