Going back to 1991, West Virginia has been a member of the Big East Conference.
Nothing against the Big East, but it hasn't exactly been known as a great football conference, especially the last several seasons. Miami and Virginia Tech left the conference in 2004 which didn't help matters. Boston College followed in 2005.
Syracuse and Pitt announced last fall they were hitting the road after the 2013 season, as well.
The last two moves left the league on the brink of extinction, especially as a football playing conference with a BCS bid at stake.
The rest of its league's members were left scrambling, especially those with an established football programs, namely Louisville and West Virginia.
West Virginia moves to the Big 12 officially on July 1st. As for Louisville, the Cardinals are forced to wait to see if the Big 12 ever expands back to 12 teams.
Given the ridiculousness that is college realignment, it's probably a safe bet to say West Virginia is happy to have found a new home in the Big 12. So happy in fact, they are making ice sculptures to celebrate the occasion.

This sculpture was on display at a scholarship dinner in Charleston on Monday night and comes via John Antonik's twitter feed who is the director of new media for WVU.
How about that, someone that actually wants to be in the conference and seems excited about it at the same time. Imagine that. It's definitely been a while since we've been able to say that and I have to say, it doesn't sound all bad.
