Although nothing is official, speculation is starting to heat up again that West Virginia and the Big East are working on some sort of compromise that will allow the Mountaineers to officially join the Big 12 next season. Let's hope there's some truth to that so we can see a schedule sometime before the Fourth of July.
As much as it hurt to lose schools like Nebraska, Missouri, Texas A&M, and Colorado, one huge positive is adding West Virginia. They're not exactly a geographical fit, but from a football standpoint, I'm not sure the Big 12 could have done any better than bringing the Mountaineers into the fold.
And we all know how well Dana Holgorsen's offense fits into the conference already. We saw it up close and personal during the 2010 season. Heck, he might be one of the main reasons Oklahoma lost Brent Venables to Clemson to be their defensive coordinator.
Speaking of that, here's a great video recapping the Orange Bowl when Holgorsen's offense put 70 points on the Tigers leading to Kevin Steele's exit and Venables arrival. Just a quick preview reminding the Big 12's defensive coordinators things aren't getting any easier next season.
Thanks to EERnation for the tip on the video. You can catch up on the latest happenings with West Virginia on EERnation's site here, and their twitter feed here. Enjoy and welcome to the Big 12 West Virginia (hopefully soon, of course).
