For those that have been following the path of former Missouri quarterback Tyler Gabbert, which I'm guessing isn't many, his name has resurfaced once again. According to a report in the Orlando Sentinel, Gabbert will be heading to Orlando, Florida to play football for Central Florida.
Gabbert was a highly sought after recruit in Mizzou's 2010 class. He originally committed to Nebraska before de-committing and signing with Missouri. He redshirted during the 2010 season and then following his older brother Blaine's departure to the NFL, he was locked in a closely contested battle in spring practice for the starting quarterback position this past season with James Franklin. Franklin finished spring practice as the number one guy although the starter wasn't expected to be named until sometime in fall camp.
Shortly after spring practice finished however, Gabbert announced he was transferring, although the reasons were never made public. Then this past summer, he announced he was heading to Louisville, but he didn't even make it to fall camp before he decided he wouldn't be part of Louisville's program, after all.
He then sat out the entire 2011 season while attending a community college in St. Louis.
Now he'll be heading to UCF who has been on the market for a quarterback since Jeff Godfrey announced he was transferring following the season. He had lost the starting job to sophomore-to-be Blake Bortles during the season. Gabbert will be in competition with Bortles for the starting job along with incoming freshman Jonathan Wallace.
Success has eluded the former four-star prospect up to this point. Hopefully he gives it some time this go-around and finds whatever it is he's looking for in the Sunshine state. He will have three year's of eligibility left at UCF.
