Andrew Hammond's Week One Preview

Written by Andrew Hammond

It’s Here, It’s Finally Here!!!!!!!!!!!

After an off-season full of controversy the college football season is here!! No more hearing about who got paid or who’s going to lose players, it’s all about the football and I have the games you need to see this week!!

How I rate the games-It’s Simple, I choose the five games I deem the most important going into the weekend based on previous history or significance for the season or that week.

Rating Scale

5 Stars-Put the Family and Friends on hold from the pregame talks to the post game show.

4 Stars-Keep your butt on the couch but still make plans, it could be over at any second.

3 Stars-Eat dinner with your lady/gentleman friend but be near a TV just in case.

2 Stars-Keep the game on Tivo in case it becomes the game of the week.

1 Star-Pop the latest Tyler Perry Movie in, it will be more interesting

5 Star Game of the Week-(LSU vs. Oregon in Cowboys Stadium) AKA “The Willie Lyles Bowl”

Les_MilesThis game will feature two schools that could be headed for the BCS Title Game and also headed for NCAA Probation. In early August it was a mystery if these two schools would have players on the field andfor LSU that’s still a question. The Tigers wont have Jordan Jefferson for this week as he is dealing with legal issues back in Baton Rouge, LA so the Bayou Bengals will turn to Jarrett Lee. The last time most of us saw Lee he was causing Urban Meyer to go into early retirement as he stole a win from Florida in the Swamp. The biggest thing for Lee is shaking of the interceptions that tend to come his way and playing great all four quarters, if he does that then the Tigers will have a very, very, good night. Things might different for the Oregon Ducks. The last time we saw Oregon they were walking off the field in Arizona after being defeated in the BCS Title Game, now they are back and (Close your ears Pac-12) and even better. LaMichael James and Co. look to prove the nation wrong and show that the Lightning Quick Oregon Ducks can beat the Megatron SEC schools, Chip Kelly has been under the close eye of the NCAA all off season and while it shouldn’t effect the on field performance it will be interesting to see if the Ducks have solved the SEC riddle. Final Score LSU 33, Oregon 24

4 Star Games for Week 1,  Boise St. Vs. Georgia and South Florida At Notre Dame

These two games have the most potential of become the games of the day. Both USF and Boise go into difficult stadiums to start promising 2011 seasons. Make no mistake about it, the Broncos from Boise, ID are not playing a “:Neutral Site Game” they are going into a Red and Black filled dome full of Bulldog fans that want to see them turn to Elmers Glue. The key that Boise St. has going for them is they are playing the most unstable team in the SEC not named LSU, the Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt is on a hot seat that could get even warmer if the litte sisters of the poor from Boise, ID step in and mark their territory in the Bulldogs own house. Boise St. has slowly become the new age Notre Dame, your either with or against them. This season opener is much different from some in years past, they wont be the sentimental favorites and they are facing a team with something to prove. Final Score Georgia 31, Boise State 28

South Florida comes into to South Bend, IN with nothing to lose and everything to gain in their season opener. The Bulls head coach has close ties to the ND Football Program, he’s the son of former ND Coach Lou Holtz, Skip Holtz. USF has stood on the doorstep of big upsets since their rise in 2008 so it comes as no surprise that most people are looking at the Irish and putting them on upset alert to start the 2011 campaign. The Irish come into a game like this as a favorite but tend to make it interesting, in other words they have a Dallas Cowboys like meltdown and become the butt of jokes around the college football world. The last 4 games of the 2010 season the Irish played some of their best ball the biggest question is will it finally translate over under 2nd Year Coach Brian Kelly. Final Score Notre Dame 28, USF 17

3 Star games for week 1,  SMU At. Texas A&M and TCU At. Baylor

Baylor_helmetTCU and Baylor go together like Barry Bonds and the Justice System. Back when the Big 12 first formed the TCU Horned Frogs were passed over in favor of the Baylor Bears and all TCU did was create an identity as a giant killer and won the 2010 Rose Bowl while Baylor became well, Baylor up until Robert Griffin gave them some respectability. TCU returns defensive monster Tank Carder but the Frogs are needing to replace QB Andy Dalton. Baylor on the other hand will be playing their biggest game in school history and looking to make their mark on the existing Big 12. Robert Griffin is the most valuable player in the Big 12 and without him this game would be a TCU victory but I’m going with the upset. Final Score Baylor 24, TCU 21

This final game could be called the awkward bowl, outgoing member Texas A&M welcomes possible new member SMU. These schools have roots dating back to the Southwestern Conference so this is a game that the old heads would appreciate, three yards and a cloud of dust would describe this one..If it were played in 1971 not 2011. This game will be a shootout between June Jones dynamic SMU Offense and TAMU QB Ryan Tannehill and Cyrus Gray’s breakaway speed make this one turn into a shootout that only Texas schools can handle but if this game were in Dallas then it may be close but it’s in College Station, so like them or not I’m picking the Aggies to start of the season 1-0. Final Score Texas A&M 45, SMU 20
